Transforming the Global Power Sector: Open Tools and Data for Renewable Energy Integration

Policymakers, power system operators, and energy regulators around the world have set ambitious clean energy targets. To successfully achieve these targets, system operators must develop efficient and cost-effective ways to integrate variable renewable energy onto the grid while maintaining or increasing system stability and reliability.

In part one of this a two-part webinar presented by the USAID-NREL Partnership and the Global Power System Transformation (G-PST) Consortium’s Open Tools and Data Pillar, expert speakers introduced open-source data platforms and tools that support planning for grid integration of variable renewable energy and discussed production cost modeling (PCM) tools for power sector planning.
