Guidelines for Providing Product Sustainability Information

In order to help companies and governments achieve more effective and reliable communication with consumers, the United Nations Environment Program and the Akatu Institute launch a video presenting the Guidelines for Providing Product Sustainability Information.

The Guidelines are a global guide on making effective environmental, social, and economic claims to facilitate the empowerment of consumers by enabling better consumption choices. The Guidelines are a product of the Consumer Information Program (CI-SCP), part of the One Planet network.

The principles of the Guidelines can be applied to any type of product or service and in different media, such as labels, websites, social networks and campaigns.

Providing reliable information that guides consumers' decision-making is crucial for companies or organizations that want to lead and accelerate the transition towards Sustainable Consumption and Production policies and practices, the need for which is recognized internationally by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the goal 12.8: by 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.
