60GHz mmWave Simulation with openEMS & Blender - Radiation Pattern

Testing the capabilities of openEMS to do millimeter wave EM simulations! For this I will be using one of Texas Instruments mmWave evaluation boards, specifically TIDEP-01001 which features the AWR6843 60GHz single-chip mmWave sensor.

The design consists of a 60GHz transmitting and receiving patch antenna arrays that are series-fed from transmission lines to and from the AWR6843 sensor.

This animation shows how the electric field component is launched from the sensor to the patch antenna array and then how the electric field is radiated. As expected, there is a main lobe and a side lobe since all patch antenna elements are driven in phase with each other
