Every transaction in DBMS goes through different states based on their instructions that were executed successfully or failed to execute. They are ACTIVE, PARTIALLY COMMITTED, COMMITTED, FAILED and ABORTED. This lecture explains about how and when each transaction will go to a particular state with examples. If a transaction starts its execution, it is said to be in ACTIVE state. If all the instructions (INSERT, DELETE, UPDATE) mentioned in that transaction is completed, we say that the transaction enters PARTIALLY COMMITTED state.
