1. SOUNDBITE (English) Salem al Meslet, spokesperson for delegation of main Syrian opposition group:
"You see, we are here, you know the suffering of the Syrian people there, it's important for us to see (that) at least paragraph 12 and 13 of (UN) resolution 2254 is implemented. This is not our condition. This is a resolution that was signed by 15 members of the Security Council. It's important to us, it is important to stop these massacres. You know, our people, our children, are getting death by Russian airstrikes, by starving to death. We are here to put an end to this one. Then we go to negotiation. At least, at least we should see that the international community is keen and serious to help the Syrian people."
STORYLINE:
A delegation of Syria's main political opposition group arrived in Geneva late on Saturday to join the peace talks with United Nations representatives.
The group is lead by Higher Negotiating Committee chief Riad Hijab.
A spokesman for the delegation said they hoped to be able to discuss with the UN team the implementation of Security Council decisions on humanitarian issues.
