HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We're in for a warm, humid Thanksgiving Day. Meteorologist Travis Herzog says it will feel more like September than November as tempers start near 70 and warm to near 80. A few light rain showers will quickly pass through today ahead a slow-moving cold front entering the Texas Panhandle.

There could be major travel problems starting Friday in the northern parts of the state and spreading southward by Sunday. Moisture from Hurricane Sandra in the Pacific will spread rain over most of Texas on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In the Panhandle the air will be cold enough to create icy roads near Amarillo and Lubbock. Snow is possible farther north. Meanwhile, flash floods are possible around Dallas/Fort Worth.

That cold front reaches Houston Saturday, leading to cool, wet weather Sunday.

Hurricane Sandra has strengthened to a powerful Category 4 storm in the eastern Pacific off Mexico's coast.

The hurricane's maximum sustained winds increased early Thursday to near 230 kph. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says no significant change in strength is expected but weakening should begin Friday.

Sandra is centred about 810 kilometres southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico, and is moving north near 19 kph.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says it's the strongest hurricane in the eastern Pacific for this late in the year.
