Bust a Groove is a hybrid music/fighting game (heavy on the music, light on the fighting) released in 1998. The idea is to follow the instructions for button presses, ending the sequence in beat with the music. I remember liking this quite a lot back in the PS1 days, despite the music being quite far from my normal tastes.

Several nutty characters battle each other on the dancefloor for possession of an alien device called "the Groovetron". Opponents range from slightly weird (a stripper/fortune teller/assassin) to really weird (aliens and dancing robots).

Heat is supposed to be the feature character, but I played as Frida because women dance better. :) The game is more or less impossible to play these days, since the delay between graphics and music is hardcoded for TVs back in the 90's, so most of the playthrough is done with re-recording. Because of that, I played on 'hard', to give the computer a chance, and since dominating too much zooms in on your character, making it a bit boring.

There are some graphical glitches, in that metallic surfaces are pretty wonky and some objects get stretched when they are really close to the camera. Hopefully a future revision of PSXjin might fix this.

The gameplay movie consists of one run through the stages only. Bonus video contains the ending movie and some private dancing (no, not that kind!) for each character, also allowing you to hear their themes without the announcer screaming all the time. Bios video contains the biographies of the characters with their alternative themes (instrumental) in the background, as well as two other mixes (one from the gamedisc and one from OCRemix).
