In this episode of Guide Left, Stage Right's "Hollywood Film or Historical Fact?," we are taking a look at the 1959 movie "The Horse Soldiers" based on the 1956 book of the same name by Harold Sinclair who in turn based the story on the historical 1863 raid through Mississippi led by Union cavalry officer Benjamin Grierson. The focus of this episode will be to see how accurate the costume of the character Colonel John Marlowe, played by John Wayne, is to the historical uniforms of the American Civil War. This will include discussing Wayne's hat, coat, shirts, trousers and boots.
