In the dead of winter, when temperatures drop below minus 50°C and winds can lift a grown man off his feet, the world’s greatest mountains were once considered untouchable.

Everyone said winter climbing above 8,000 meters was impossible.

Between 1980 and 1988, a single generation of Polish climbers achieved something no nation has ever repeated. Seven first winter ascents of the world’s highest peaks. Everest. Annapurna. They became known as The Ice Warriors. But behind the triumph was a darker truth.

During this same golden decade, nearly eighty percent of Poland’s elite high-altitude climbers lost their lives in the mountains. Heroes at home. Graves in the Himalayas.

This film tells the full story — from life behind the Iron Curtain, to the brutal invention of extreme winter climbing, to the rise of legends like Jerzy Kukuczka, one of the greatest alpinists in history. And finally, to the price that ended an era.
