Rawalpindi Ring Road, a project that is being looked forward to by not only the residents of the Twin Cities but also the areas around them, is not a project that was proposed just before the inauguration. Rawalpindi Ring Road was initially approved in 1991 but unfortunately it could not be executed until 2017, when officially it was inaugurated. Although the total length of the Ring Road is approximately 65.3 kilometres, however, currently only the initial patch of 38.3 kilometres is officially approved and the work on this patch has been started. The Route of this initial patch is defined but the Route of the other patch is still not 100% confirmed as some changes have already been made on it. Nevertheless, the proposed map of the entire Ring Road is revealed by the relevant administrative bodies.

Rawalpindi Ring Road, starting from N5 Radio Pakistan near Rawat and ending at N5 Sangjani, currently consists of 8 Interchanges. Although this patch of approximately 65.3 km is currently known as Ring Road however, this patch actually is just a part of Ring Road. The ending point of this current patch is actually the starting point of Margalla Avenue which ends at the Bhara Kahu Bypass. From the end of Bharakhu Bypass till the starting point of this current patch, will be another road which will be the third and last patch of the Ring Road. As the name suggests, Ring Road will form a Ring around the Twin Cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to facilitate the overall traffic commute of the entire area. Development work in the Rawalpindi Ring Road has been started in patched and recently another patch was approved for development which will connect the Ring Road with the Margalla Avenue.
