This is a video is an incredible insight and look back at the longest and oldest flats in Europe, which, devastatingly, have now been demolished.

The short movie was created by a film maker in Inverclyde of the demolition of the Bouverie Street tenement flats, which were some of the oldest and longest tenements standing in Europe, with over 150 years of history. This film is about the building, the town, and what local residents think about the demolition of these flats in their own of Port Glasgow.

Featuring former resident Miss Mattie Taggart, former resident and owner of Bouverie Motors Garage David Hay Smith, and Russell Smith from RiverClyde Homes.

Film mentions...

The Birkmyre family built the flats for the Mill workers and families. It was built in 1864 with a school on the end.

Firth View was built at he top of Bouverie Street later on.

1932 the rest of the tenements were added.

Single end flat was one room, the toilet on the landing was shared with 19 tenants over 5 flats.
