Welcome onboard the King Long XMQ6121G! These buses were introduced in 2011, under RapidKL’s fleet renewal. While having a similar bodywork to Singapore operator SBS Transit’s Scania K230UBs, they share many differences, especially in terms of its interior. RapidKL also operates MAN 18.280s and Scania K270UBs and K250UBs, which all share the same bodywork, though there are distinct differences between all the three models. They have served RapidKL well, making up the bulk of its fleet.

The King Longs were provided with Coolair aircon, though I believe it is Konventa due to its similar shape. The seats were from a Chinese manufacturer, which also provided the seats for the K250UB/K270UBs and 18.280s and other public buses in Malaysia. They are made of hard plastic, which can give you a backache if you seat down for a long time.

However, they all share a nice and bright peach interior colour scheme, a nice break from SBS Transit’s dull brown interior. A missed feature from the KUBs in Singapore, however, has to be the fixed vents instead of the adjustable outlets found on the usually so-called ‘notorious’ KUBs. Also, the aircon units are not particularly powerful or cooling. Well, the doors are nicer than the SMC Transit doors on the KUBs, being manufactured by an unknown brand who also makes doors for various buses in Malaysia.

In this video, we take WUW2519 on the GOKL Purple Line. GOKL was launched by SPAD on 31st August 2012, in a bid for people to use free bus services and reduce cars on the road, which would help to lower the occurence of the common traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur. There are now 4 routes, namely the Purple, Green, Blue and Red Lines.

The GOKL Purple and Green Lines use a full fleet of ex-RapidKL King Longs, which have been given a full-body stickered pink livery, although the original red livery on the top can be seen on the aircon pod from above. WUW2519 travels through the busy roads of KL from Muzium Telekom to Starview Gallery. I must admit that these buses are quite nice to take! I particularly like the gearshifts from the Allison 5-speed gearbox. Do try out the GOKL buses when you visit KL next time! ;)
