Substitution is the action of replacing someone or something with another person or thing. During a football match for instance, the coach may substitute a player for another. In mathematics, variables are usually being replace by numbers in order to simplify or evaluate an algebraic expression.
Example: if we have x-2 and we know that x = 4, then with substitution x-2 is 4-2 and that equals 2.
Tip
The order of operation must be followed to simplify accurately i.e BODMAS or PEDMAS or BEDMAS.
