The United States, which accounts for only 4% of the world’s population, spends as much on drugs as the rest of the world combined (96%). Despite this, health outcomes in the US are often worse than those in developing countries. Economic inefficiencies of the healthcare system are the main drivers of these poor results. By focusing on outcomes and taking a commonsense approach, significant cost savings can be achieved.
