In this day and age, I feel that very little importance is given to poetry and literature and much lesser to the revered connoisseur of our language.
In my extreme love for the city, I came up with an idea to make something like this and put it out there, giving my unconditional love for the poets, literature, and the city.
In a hope to inspire and encourage you all to keep looking and keep learning and how beautiful it all is.

Patta patta, boota boota, haal hamaaraa jaane hai
Jaane na jaane gul hi na jaane, baagh to saaraa jaane hai
Every leaf and every shrub here knows of my state
It is the flower that is unaware, but all the bower knows
faqirana aye sada kar chale
miyan khush raho ham dua kar chale
As a fakir* I did come to thee yelling I went away.
Be happy my friend praying I went away.
dikhai diye yun ki bekhud kiya
hamain ap se bhi juda kar chale
Your gaze made me disown my senses.
Separating thus you from me, I estranged away.
parastish ki yan tain ki ay but tujhe
nazar main sabon ki Khuda kar chale
I adored you so much O idol my love.
And you had become a deity, this all fancied away.
kahen kya jo puche koi ham se "Meer"
jahan main tum aye the, kya kar chale
What should I tell if someone asks me, O Meer!
In this world, you come to be, what you did going away.

Yeh na thee hamari qismat keh wisaal-e-yaar hota
Agar aur jeete rehtey yehi intezaar hota.
To meet you in this lifetime, was never in my fate,
If granted more years, would have spent those in this wait.
Tere waade par jiyee ham to yeh jaan jhoot jana
Keh khushi se mar na jaate agar aitbaar hota
A life lived on your promise, would have been but a charade,
Would I not have died of happiness, had there been of hope, but a trace.
koi meray dil say puchey tere teerey neem kash ko
ye khalish kahan se hoti jo jiger ke paar hota
Had some one inquired of my heart, of your drawn dart,
My heart would have felt no pain, even if your arrow pierced it hard.

Lagtaa nahii hai dil meraa ujRe dayaar mei
Kiss kii banii hai aalame-naapaaidaar mein
What pleasure can the heart know in this derelict city
Who has found fulfillment in this mortal world
Kah do in hasraton se kahiin aur jaa baein
Itnii jagah kahaan hai dil-e-daaghdaar mein
Tell these desires to go and settle down elsewhere
There is little room in this so tainted heart
Kitnaa hai badnaseeb zafar dafan ke liye
Do gaz zamiin bhii naa milii kue-yaar mein
How ill fated is that for Zafar even for his burial
Was not granted two yards of earth (for his grave) in the land of the beloved

Tumhaare khat mein nayaa ik salaam kis kaa thaa
Na thaa raqiib to aakhir vo naam kis kaa thaa
There was a new greeting in your letter, who was it for?
If it was not my rival, whose name was it?
Rahaa na dil mein vo be-dard aur dard rahaa
Muqiim kaun huaa hai maqaam kis kaa thaa
The merciless one left my heart, but the ache remained
Who took up residence, and whose place was it?
Vo qatl kar ke har kisii se puuchhate hain
Ye kaam kis ne kiyaa hai ye kaam kis kaa thaa
She took my life, and asks everyone,
Who did this, whose work was it?
Har ek se kahate hain kyaa “daag” bevafaa nikalaa
Ye puuchhe in se ko_ii vo gulaam kis kaa thaa
She says to everyone, “see how unfaithful Daagh turned out”
Somebody, please ask her, whose slave was he?
