Описание к видео A Tapestry of Western Wildlife: History and Lore given by curator Lee Silliman

Park City Museum will host a Zoom lecture called A Tapestry of Western Wildlife: History and Lore given by curator Lee Silliman on Wednesday, November 8 from 5-6 p.m. To sign-up for the lecture, please contact Diane Knispel at [email protected] and she will send you a link. Denizens: Wildlife on the Western Frontier exhibition will be displayed at the Park City Museum from November 4, 2023 through January 7, 2024. More information can be found at www.parkcityhistory.org.

Presented in conjunction with an exhibit of vintage wildlife prints entitled Denizens: Wildlife on the Western Frontier, this lecture will vividly sketch portraits of the diverse fauna which were abundant on the Great Plains and in the Rocky Mountains during the frontier era. Through vintage imagery and nineteenth century first person narratives, Silliman will offer samplings of the history and lore of the American bison, grizzly bear, antelope, wolf, wild horses, and other wildlife species which fascinated early westerners. Emphasis will be placed upon unusual characteristics and dramatic encounters with people. Also, viewers will see a collection of unusual artworks drawn from the presenter’s personal print collection and rare books. These stories will evoke an historical era when a cornucopia of nature’s creatures dominated the landscape of western North America. The public is invited at no charge to this event. A bibliography of relevant books will be made available.

Lee Silliman, a retired educator and former museum archivist, has nurtured an avid interest in the art and history of the American West since his youth. A collector of vintage engravings, Silliman has assembled and annotated exhibits of these artworks for museums in eight western states.
