Reflection Questions:
1. Systems Change and Sustainability
Dr. Yorick explains why he moved from clinical practice to public health and emphasizes that lasting impact comes from embedding change into systems. How did his early work in Russia shape this view, and why does he see systems change as essential for sustainability?
2. Advocacy, Power, and Working with Governments
Drawing on his experience with HealthRight, Dr. Yorick contrasts “loud” public advocacy with quieter, behind-the-scenes collaboration with authorities. How does this perspective complicate common ideas about advocacy in global health, and what are the risks and benefits of this approach?
3. Navigating Donors, NGOs, and Complex Health Systems
Based on his leadership roles in Ukraine and Tajikistan and his experience as both an implementer and donor, what key lessons does Dr. Yorick offer about working across donors, governments, and communities, and how might these lessons shape your own career goals in public health?
