J.S. Bach: Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor for Organ, BWV 582

Описание к видео J.S. Bach: Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor for Organ, BWV 582

This piece is one of Bach's most important and well-known works, and is a personal favorite of mine. Bach uses an ostinato beginning in the pedal, and then continues on to write twenty-one variations of the same ostinato. The Fugue uses the theme of the ostinato, but in the form of a double-fugue, bach uses an altered version of the second half as the second subject. The genius of Bach is so evident here, but the minor key brings out a sense of pain and longing, as Philipp Spitta points out in his biography of J.S. Bach. This recording is tuned to A = 465 hz, which was used in parts of Germany. Enjoy!
