Venlafaxine is also known as the brand name: Effexor, Effexor XR (display on screen)

Venlafaxine is most commonly used for mood changes, but can also be used for different anxiety disorders, trouble paying attention, hot flashes, or diabetic nerve pain. No matter what your doctor has you taking if for, venlafaxine is usually taken by mouth once daily at the same time each day with a meal. DO NOT stop taking venlafaxine at once, if your doctors tells you to stop taking it then you will go from your normal dose and decrease to a smaller dose every week until you are off the medication.

Standard dosing of venlafaxine ranges from Effexor XR 37.5 mg, 75 mg, and 150 mg and Effexor 25mg, 37.5 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg, and 100 mg.

Some common side effects with venlafaxine include nausea or lack of appetite, trouble sleeping or weird dreams, dry mouth, changes in sexual intercourse, and weight changes.

Do not take venlafaxine if you have had any new or worsening suicidal thoughts.

While taking venlafaxine, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have:
 If you are pregnant or breast feeding
 If you have a heart condition
 If you have liver or kidney disease
 If you have increased bleeding or bruising
 If you are taking other medications, OTC medications, or herbal medicines.
