What is cavitation?
cavitation is simply the formation of vapor bubble and then the collapsing of these bubbles. so

Q. How these bubbles are formed in cavitation and how it damage the material?
Ans. These bubbles are simply formed when the water molecules evaporate at the same temperature under low pressure. we know this simple phenomenon that when their is a decrease in pressure the water molecules can evaporate. similarly when a turbine rotates then there are high and low pressure regions created a single blade. the water molecules convert to gas at low pressure. when these vapors comes under high pressure it implodes producing shock wave. This shock wave when near to the surface of the blade can seriously damage the material of the blade. and produces pitting which slowly and gradually deteriorates it and render it unfit for the operation.

This video consists of that explanation of the low pressure and evaporation. the experiment where you can see the cavitation phenomenon. the slow mo of the vapor bubble imploding process.
