The New Port of The Gambia

The Gambian government plans to modernize and expand the Container Terminal to create a competitive and diversified economy. However, the current port's location in Banjul is causing traffic congestion and operational inefficiencies due to its integration with the city. As a solution, the Albayrak Group suggests relocating the port to Sanyang, which would help reduce city traffic, provide international route integration, and offer the advantages of ample land. The proposed New Port of Gambia in Sanyang aims to transform the Gambian economy through industries, free trade, agricultural zones, and more. This step is of vital importance to compete with the regional rival, Dakar Port. While the completion of the first phase is expected in 2025, the long-term goal is to encourage economic growth and development.
