Video tutorial of the Milanese Lace Stitch. This is a beautiful lace stitch that produces a dainty lace fabric. Ideal for scarfs, stoles, and afghans.
Milanese lace stitch pattern (traditional stitch; stitch is worked on a multiple of 6 stitches + 2 stitches; pattern is a 4-row repeat; level: advanced beginner or intermediate).
Abbreviations: K=knit; K2Tog=knit 2 stitches together; P=purl; P2Tog=purl 2 stitches together; RS=right side; st=stitch; WS=wrong side; YO=yarn over.
Cast on a multiple of 6 st +2 (eg, 26, 32, 38, 44, etc) using any cast-on method of your choice (I typically use the long-tail cast-on method; video link to that technique is below). You can use regular needles; you don’t need double-pointed needles; I like using them for my demos (:
Row 1 (RS): K1, *K4, K2Tog, YO. Rep from * to last st, then K1
Row 2 (WS): P1, *YO, P1, P2Tog, P3. Rep from * to last st, then P1
Row 3: Row 3: K1, *K2, K2Tog, K2, YO. Rep from * to last st, then K1
Row 4: P1, *YO, P3, P2Tog, P1. Rep from * to last st, then P1
Row 5: K1, *K4Tog, K4, YO. Rep from * to last st, then K1
Row 6: P2, *P4, YO, P2Tog. Rep from * to end of the row
Row 7: K1, *K1, YO, K3, K2Tog. Rep from * to last st, then K1
Row 8: P1, *P2Tog, P2, YO, P2. Rep from * to last st, then P1
Row 9: K1, *K3, YO, K1, K2Tog. Rep from * to last st, then K1
Row 10: P1, *P2Tog, YO, P4. Rep from * to last st, then P1
Repeat Rows 1-10 for the Milanese Lace Stitch Pattern. When done knitting, end on Row 10 and then cast off using regular bind off or any bind-off method of your choice. Lace fabric will scrunch up a bit, so will need to block it to lay flat.
