In this video, our skate expert Nick is going to show us how to assemble a skateboard.
In case you decide against a complete board and bought all the parts for your setup already, the last and most important step is still missing: assembly! We recommend watching the “Griptape” video again, in which Nick shows us how to apply your griptape to your deck without creating bubbles in the process. After you’ve applied your griptape, you have to poke eight holes in it with (for example) a screw in order to attach your trucks to your deck. But watch out, the trucks always have to have the kingpin facing inwards, towards the middle of the board. That’s for your own good - you don’t want to be kissing pavement the first time you try turning. The screws have to be tightened now and again after initial assembly, because they can loosen after a while - and nothing’s more likely to blow your ride than a slack truck, trust us.
The only things missing now are wheels and bearings. You’re gonna need a fair amount of muscle to do this one, because you have to push the bearings into the indentations in the wheels. Now you have to remove the nuts and both spacers from the axle and lay one bearing on it with the shield side down. Add the wheel and push hard until the bearing disappears into the urethane. It should be kept straight and carefully pushed in. You can add a spacer to the second bearing if you want, which would keep it from getting pushed in too deeply while skating. Nick’s going to show you more clearly what the whole process looks like!
As soon as all your wheels have bearings, you’re going to need to secure them to the trucks. That part’s easy: first a spacer, then the wheel with two bearings, another spacer and then the nut - that’s always the proper order! Try to steer a middle course and don’t screw your nuts on too tight, nor too loose. If the wheels are steady and don’t wobble around, you can officially get rolling!
