Italian Focaccia bread is similar to pizza dough but is typically thicker and softer.

Ingredients:

For the yeast activation:
1/2 cup lukewarm water
1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar

For the dough:
1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
1 tbsp of Milk powder
1 tsp of sugar
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Yeast water (from the activation)

For garnishing (before baking):
10 fresh basil leaves
8 pitted olives
1-2 tablespoons of butter

Instructions:

1. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of lukewarm water, 1 teaspoon of dry yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Stir to dissolve the yeast and sugar. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.

2. In a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of all-purpose flour (maida), salt to taste and 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano. Mix well.

3. Now pour the activated yeast water into the flour mixture. Mix it to form a soft dough. You may need to add more water or flour as necessary to achieve the right consistency.

3. Add 1 tbsp of butter into the dough, Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

5. Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).

6. Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a greased baking tray. Press and shape it into a flat rectangle or circle, about 1/2 inch thick.

7. Drizzle 1-2 tablespoons of melted butter over the top. Place basil leaves and olives on top of the dough, pressing them gently into the surface.

8. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the focaccia is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

9. Remove the focaccia from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice it and serve warm.
