Item #1 - Why? Do you really want all that comes with a promotion or do you just want more money?

Item #2 - Boss Relationship - How is this relationship? Are you having ongoing conversations about your career? Remember they are likely not the ultimate decision maker

Item #3 - Company Size - This is CRITICAL, this will dictate how you prepare for this conversation

Item #4 - The Process - So many factors, take all process items including timing into consideration

Item #5 - Self-Evaluation - Are you really crushing it, is now the right time for a promo?

Item #6 - Prepare - Create a formal doc you can share with your boss during or right after your meeting, this will speed up the process and show you are organized

Item #7 - Practice - Make sure whoever you practice with Google's questions a boss might ask if you ask for a promotion, this part of the practice will be important

Item #8 - The Conversation - Be gracious, be kind, be organized, be methodical, and don't let them know this conversation is coming, you want to get a natural reaction

Item #9 - Expect Questions - No problem, you are already prepared and practiced answers to commonly asked questions

Item #10 - Response Time - Ask for when you can expect an answer - hold them accountable

Item #11 - Responding to No - Be gracious, be kind, and ask if you can create a 3 to 6 month action plan to get promoted, if no, find another job!

Thanks!

Jeff
