Скачать или смотреть ☄️ESA’s Mars Orbiters Capture Rare View of Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS (with Webb Image)

Between 1 and 7 October, ESA’s ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) and Mars Express turned their cameras toward interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS as it passed close to Mars.
During its closest approach on 3 October, the comet came within 30 million km of the Red Planet — the closest view of any ESA spacecraft.

Using the CaSSIS (Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System) camera aboard ExoMars TGO, scientists captured a moving sequence showing Comet 3I/ATLAS drifting near the centre of the image — a faint white dot representing its icy-rocky nucleus surrounded by the coma.

Both Mars orbiters, designed to image the planet’s bright surface, faced a unique challenge observing such a dim, distant object — yet the result is a historic observation of an interstellar visitor from beyond our Solar System.

🔭 The video also includes imagery from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), offering a complementary perspective of the comet’s structure and composition.
