Hyundai and Kia are recalling more than 147,000 vehicles combined due to potential issues with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which could lead to a loss of drive power while driving. This recall follows notices posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Hyundai is recalling approximately 98,878 vehicles, including certain model year 2022–2024 IONIQ 5, 2023–2024 IONIQ 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 “Electrified,” and Genesis GV80 “Electrified” vehicles. Kia is recalling approximately 48,232 vehicles, including certain model year 2022–2024 EV6 vehicles.

Both automakers reported problems with the ICCU, which can become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt backup battery, posing a risk of drive power loss while driving and potentially increasing the risk of an accident.

Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary, and update the ICCU software at no cost to owners. Kia's owner letters are expected to be mailed on April 29, while Hyundai's will be mailed on May 14.
