It's important to understand the meaning of "status". Check mark with the green background means "Always keep on this device". You can right click on a file or folder & uncheck "Always keep on this device". Status symbol then will change to white background with green checkmark. White background with green checkmark means that the files are downloaded to your PC. Cloud symbol means that the files are in the cloud (OneDrive Online) & are not downloaded to your PC. The file will still appear in the OneDrive folder of your computer but it's just a shortcut to download the file. Person's icon next to the other icon. Let's find with whom the folder is actually shared! Click on each tab (People, Group/family, or Links). The folder is shared with a link. That means anyone with the link can download & edit this files! Delete the link by clicking on the bin icon to remove the share.

NOTE: If the shared icon is still stays on, don't worry, give it a few days and check back again later.
