EP59: Best Place to Stay in Istanbul // Welcome to Galata

This is the best place to stay in Istanbul. Part of our travel dream is to be fully immersed into a new culture. Have a new life in a new place each time. Learn new things and meet new people. Part of that new life also includes finding a new home. It's both exciting and scary all at once. You just want to find the perfect place so you can focus seeing all the rest. We are excited to share with you our new home and neighborhood in Istanbul! We found a lovely AirBnB in the Galata area in the Beyoğlu district on the European side of Istanbul. Not only is the apartment beautiful, the building has a rich history and is Istanbul's 1st renovation to receive a LEED Silver certification for being a green building. (Read more on the history of the building and the area in the links below.) We have also been ever so fortunate to have extremely nice neighbors. In our short time here we have met everyone in the building and made some friends!

Getting out and about the neighborhood has also been a lot of fun. Everything is so walkable not having a car is not a big deal. We walk to the market, the produce stand, the restaurants and nightlife. Yesterday we even walked over the Bosphorus Bridge into Old Town Istanbul. The portion of the Bosphorus is known as the Golden Horn. The city has a fascinating culture and incredibly old with buildings and civilizations beginning before the time of Christ. Today the neighborhood is lively, full of street art, people eating outside in cafes in the streets, and more than a few friendly cats and dogs in the streets. The sounds of the city are delightful new layer of our experience here; from the call to prayer, to hearing the people in the streets. Come with us as we move into our new home, explore the surrounding neighborhood and begin our life in Galata!
