New 2021 DS7 Crossback - Interior, Exterior And Features - Beautiful Small SUV!
It’s a large SUV and, like a number of its rivals, makes use of a big, distinctive front grille, wide air intakes and a high waistline to give a dominating aesthetic. The 7 Crossback is also available with an active suspension system, which comes as standard on more expensive models.
The 7 Crossback will do battle with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, as well as the Mazda CX-5. Our review will take you through which engines you should consider and which trims make the most sense.
The 7 Crossback offers buyers a choice of six engines: a 1.2-litre with 129bhp (which we’re yet to try), a 128bhp 1.5-litre diesel, a 178bhp 2.0-litre diesel and two 1.6-litre petrol units with 178bhp or 222bhp. Finally, there’s the E-Tense plug-in hybrid; this pairs a 197bhp petrol engine with a pair of electric motors to take its total output to an impressive 297bhp. The 2.0 diesel isn't as slick as an Audi Q5's diesel; it transfers some vibration through to the controls at idle and gets coarse under hard acceleration. As for the 1.5-litre diesel engine, it’s strong enough around town but takes a little while to get up to motorway speeds; with that in mind, it might not be the best choice if you regularly have a full car and A six-speed manual gearbox is available. Meanwhile, the 222bhp 1.6 petrol engine is pleasantly quiet on start-up and, at low revs, remains very hushed. Meanwhile cars with the 2.0 diesel or 222bhp petrol engine (except Performance Line), E-Tense and all Ultra Prestige models receive Active Scan suspension, which uses a camera to read the road's surface and adjust the suspension to suit, when Comfort mode in engaged.
Step inside the 7 Crossback and you’re met with a stylish interior, with interestingly shaped switches, snazzy trims and dashes of shiny chrome. Upgrade from Elegance trim and you even get swathes of Alcantara or leather covering the dash. However, the most dominating feature isn’t the exotic materials or rakish centre console; it’s the 12.0in infotainment touchscreen and 12.3in customisable digital instrument display that are standard on upper trims. More successful, however, is the digital instrument display. This is clear and responsive, and you can configure it in a number of ways to show the information most useful to you, including a large sat-nav map. It’s worth noting that Elegance models get a smaller 8.0in touchscreen and conventional instruments, but we haven’t tried this yet. there's plenty of adjustment for the driver's seat and steering wheel, so getting comfortable shouldn't be an issue for the driver, especially on plush trims that come with heated and even massaging seats. Visibility is good in all directions, but rear parking sensors come as standard on every version should you encounter any issues.
