During the 60th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council on 8 September 2025, Nazifa Jalali delivered an oral statement on behalf of the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) during the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on Afghanistan. She described how the Taliban’s violent rule has dismantled human rights protections, imposed gender apartheid through the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice law, and persecuted women, girls, journalists, human rights defenders, and religious and ethnic minorities such as Hazaras, Shias, Ismailis, Sikhs, and Hindus.

The statement urged the international community to centre Afghan women, girls, and civil society in decisions about the country’s future, and called on the Council to establish an independent accountability mechanism to investigate and preserve evidence of Taliban crimes, ensuring justice and breaking the cycle of violence.
