I've been meaning to do a redo review of the MG Hi-Nu Gundam ver KA and I've done about 50% of it in small chunks over the last few months. However, because of the large gap since the last review, I'd feel bad my only upload in ~5 months was a review of a kit you've already seen reviewed... so I decided to make this new review first!

Production notes for me to look back on later and laugh at -

This review was done in small bursts over a month, with a HUGE editing push at the end. So it was… weird. Lots of things I would do, then pause for a week, only to forget why I did them. This was the first (and hopefully only) time I've been this disorganized while making video.

The 1st misstep was that I shot the footage before the script. Since I had just shot the Hi-Nu footage, I already had my camera set up, so I decided to just go for it. I shot with no rhyme or reason, just whatever I thought I’d need. I ended up with a 25% more shots/poses than I needed, and yet still missing a good 25% of shots I did need. Never doing that again haha.

Then I hastily wrote the script. It was massively long. Mainly the build and appearance. I ended up cutting a lot. I do feel I could've given the build a 4.5 if I had sat on the script for another few days, but still, I'm pretty content with these scores. They compare well to the F91 ver 2.0 this kit is partially based on.

Using that script I snagged some specific stills I skipped the first go around, and that was that. I then, sorted the shots as usable and junk, then pumped them through Adobe Bridge, got the RAW’s looking good, and was ready to record audio.

The audio is where I started to really procrastinate. The above footage took about a week, which was longer than it could have, but the audio… took about 2 weeks to lay down. Part of the reason was I wanted more time to fine tune the script, but I know deep down it was because I just hate recording audio lol

I think I did a pretty good job with the audio this time around. I really tried to get my speaking position set up right for better recording. This is the fall, however, so I couldn’t escape the sound of leaf blowers every now and again. Very annoying, but I think I managed to mix them out for the most part. There are a few inserts that don't match though, but the editing push at the end wore me out so much, I didn't really care.

Editing was when I really felt the gap in production and lack of direction with the footage. I just had all this footage, and no idea what I planned on doing with it. I also think Adobe Bridge messed up, and exported my junk shots with my usable shots, so I just had WAY too much. Like I’d look for a shot of the knee vent, but I’d have 6-7 options. I know one of them must have been shot specifically for the knee, but I can’t tell which one.

This editing just flat sucked. I treated this like a 40 hour work week, as I only have 1 week before I start a new job and my time will be more limited. Still, I used all 40 hours, and still wish I had more time... Just so many gaps I needed to fill in and extra stuff I needed to shoot/record. I ended up doing a full run through of just the pictures I could find, then went back and filled the gaps with random turn-table footage or shot additional footage to fill in the gaps.

The main thing I would've liked more time on (aside from more quality checking) is the color filter. I kind of just slapped on the filter from the Shining Gundam, spent about 5 minutes messing with it, and called it a day. I would've liked to have really nailed the bright pure white of this F90's armor, as right now it has a slight warmish hue to it.

I really, really like this title card though. It's based on the cover of the F90's manga. I did it all in about one night, so I'm sure I'll find some mistakes later, but right now I really like it. I recreated that F90 logo in high quality btw. That was a fun use of 30 minutes.

I feel like this review is unfinished, and that's probably because I did SO MUCH in the last week editing and reshooting and rerecording. My brain is numb, and I can't process I'm actually done with this video haha. Hopefully there aren't too many flaws for me to cringe at later... but I know there will always be a few anyway lol
