Saint Anthony the Great (c. 251–356 AD), also known as the Father of Monasticism, was a Christian monk from Egypt and one of the most prominent Desert Fathers. Born to a wealthy family in Coma (modern-day Qumans), he renounced his inheritance at a young age to live a life of prayer, fasting, and asceticism in the Egyptian desert. His spiritual wisdom and miracles attracted many disciples, forming the foundation of Christian monasticism. Anthony spent most of his life in solitude but offered guidance to those who sought him.
