The leader and deputy leader of the Canadian Party of Quebec, Colin Standish and Myrtis Fossey, hold a news conference in Ottawa. The leaders are calling on the federal government to protect the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and disallow what they call the “arbitrary use” of the notwithstanding clause.

Quebec’s National Assembly recently voted to renew use of the notwithstanding clause to protect the province’s secularism law, Bill 21, from court challenges.
