Today we will learn how to grow a professional network.

As you all know people do business with people they know, like and trust. Your professional network can open doors for you and provide more opportunities that you never imagined

Networking can be a difficult and awkward process but know that there is always ways of gain when you do try rather than lose from not trying

Be helpful

One of the best networking tricks is being helpful.when people in your network get stronger you get stronger. As per the law of reciprocity people may be more motivated to return the favor. Share your expertise, your ideas and information. Promote your network's work and accomplishment. Be a connector

Find a mentor.

Finding a mentor is the best advice out there. Build a list of 3 to 7 people from whom you would like to be a mentor and reach out to them. Follow them, learn from them and even work for them for free. A mentor can teach you what books can plus once a mentor trust you his or her network become your network

Build a reputation

By building a reputation as someone who is talented, helpful, and valuable , people will be more motivated to meet you and stay in touch with you. Let people know what you are accomplishing.

Be visible

If no one knows what you are doing it is like it never happened. This particular thing I learnt from my boss lady when I worked for a corporate during my appraisal time. She insists on me more on creating visibility and says this one statement “ sell yourself”. If people don't know what you sell, how would they know what you have?

Connect with people

Ways to meet new people include conferences, events, meetups and asking people you know for introductions. Reach out to people directly or get involved in personal interest groups, classes workshops, twitter or linkedin groups

Just try
Trying is better than not trying. Networking is simply reaching out to someone whom you have no relationship with which is scary for a lot of people. If you feel overwhelmed that you are not qualified or because your pitch is not extra professional then just jump into the water away. It is ok to do it in a clumsy way than not doing it at all
