Telnet is a network protocol used to provide a command-line interface for remote computers. It operates over TCP/IP, allowing users to log in to remote systems as if they were local, typically over port 23. Telnet sends data in plain text, including usernames and passwords, making it insecure. It’s primarily used for basic management tasks or accessing remote servers but is now considered outdated.


SSH(Secure Shell) is a cryptographic network protocol used for secure remote login and other secure network services over an unsecured network. It operates on port 22 and encrypts all communications, including user credentials, commands, and data, ensuring confidentiality and integrity. SSH is commonly used for system administration, file transfers (via SFTP and SCP), and tunneling services.


NOTE:
Telnet transmits data in clear text, making it highly insecure in today’s network environments. SSH, with its strong encryption, protects against eavesdropping and man-in-the-middle attacks, making it the preferred and secure alternative.
