What To do In Guatemala? An Overview of the Country 🇬🇹

The main thing that people do on Guatemala is climb Volcan Acantenango. This is the famous volcano that overlooks the active, erupting volcano, Volcan Fuego. This is a must do.

It costs $80 US for just the hike, which is two days, one night, and includes food and transport. It is an incredible deal.

Next is a visit to Lake Atitlan. There are many different towns in which to stay, see my videos below explaining Lago Atitlan. It is a really pretty place but the time of year that you go dictates the experience.

Last is a visit to El Paredon, the black sand beach town. I loved my time there. The hostels are nice and all have pools. Hostel raves, swimming surfing, and beach volleyball await you here.

Unfortunately I skipped Tikal in the north of Guatemala, which looks amazing I heard from other backpackers that it is a highlight of the country. You can even sleep on the ruins if you bribe the guards!!

I also skipped the town of Xela, but I think that that one is more defensible because it is out of the way and not that pretty.

Finally, I skipped Semuc Champey. This is a cool town near an intricate waterfall and river in the center of the country. Apparently there is a great hostel and a bunch of water related activities nearby. Beware of the weather, this place is in a rainforest so it can get rough in May and June, rainy season.
