The government is looking for help developing advanced drones.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is hoping to create an unmanned drone that can zip in and out of buildings at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour.

DARPA is on a mission to bring these agile unmanned vehicles to life to help out troops in urban missions.

The agency essentially wants smart drones that could navigate through a labyrinth of rooms and stairways without the need of a remote pilot.

DARPA has issued a call-out to experts who can create the algorithms needed to make these types of vehicles a reality.

The drones will-- in theory-- operate on their own without relying on outside operators or even GPS waypoints.

Think of the way a hawk moves through the forest at high speeds without smacking into a tree--the DARPA program manager says they want a drone that could work similarly using non traditional perception and autonomy methods.

If this program is successful, that drone could make urban and disaster relief operations a whole lot easier.
