Senior Care Services | Penn Medicine CAREs Grant Recipient

When Joan Goldstein needed to have surgery, her only way of getting to and from the hospital was to call a taxi. “I had no one to bring me,” she says. Senior Care Services (SCS) provides a much-needed service to seniors and homebound residents in the greater Princeton area by connecting them with volunteers who can provide transportation for health care appointments, grocery shopping, and other errands, or a friendly social visit, free of charge. The service allows clients to stay in their homes longer without the risk of missing medical appointments or hindering their quality of life.

With the help of a Penn Medicine CAREs grant earned by Maureen Stemwede, who works in Penn Medicine Princeton Health’s Department of Medicine Academic Program and also serves as an SCS board member and volunteer, SCS has been able to implement an automated ride-scheduling program that streamlines their process of connecting volunteers with residents.
