In this video I'll be demonstrating How to Run Windows Programs on Linux using a very special piece of software called WINE. The video is a beginner to advanced WINE tutorial. Important commands are listed in this description.

There are two ways in which you can run Windows programs on Linux:
1. Run the program inside a virtual windows machine. (Bad for a lot of reasons, if you want to know the reasons comment and like the video.)
2. Run it with the help of WINE.

What is WINE?
-WINE stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator. It is a compatibility layer which converts Windows system calls to POSIX-compliant system call that the Linux operating system can execute easily.

Why use WINE instead of running a program inside a virtual machine?
-Its extremely lightweight and often times programs will run just as well, if not better because of the low overhead. For more information go to: https://www.winehq.org

 Commands Used In The Video:
-Installation of WINE.
$ sudo apt install wine
-If you are using a 64-bit system execute this command too.
$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt-get update && apt-get install wine32
-Create a folder in ~/ or your home directory called wine. Each program will have it's separate folder or wine bottle inside this directory.
$ mkdir ~/wine
$ mkdir ~/wine/"your program"
Starting the configuration of the newly created wine bottle.
$ WINEARCH=win32 or wine64 WINEPREFIX=~/wine/"your program" winetricks
-Watch the video from 7:47 to understand how to configure.

-To re-modify winebottle using winetricks after you have closed everything.
WINEPREFIX=~/wine/"your program" winetricks

*Note: Can't undo customizations and packages require installation in a certain order
-Common Best Practices
1. Using independent bottles for each program
2. Killing all Wine Processes
3. Only use trusted sources... Windows Viruses also run in Wine
4. NEVER use Wine as ROOT or launch via sudo command!

Kill Wine Processes - wineserver -k
Force Kill Wine Process - wineserver -k9
