Purple Passion Vine Native Plant Profile || Passiflora Incarnata

Описание к видео Purple Passion Vine Native Plant Profile || Passiflora Incarnata

I LOVE purple passionvine! Yes, it's wild, but that's why you're here, isn't it? Here at A Wild Approach, we try to create beautiful gardens, but we also do that with native plants and native wildlife in mind. I started this garden, because I was really missing seeing butterflies around me. Growing up, I was surrounded by butterflies all the season long, but here in the city, I just had a boring old lawn with a couple invasive shrubs. I didn't see a creature in sight, except maybe an overpopulation of boxelder bugs ahaha!! So, I researched how to attract butterflies and discovered the importance of HOST PLANTS. If you're not aware, butterflies have several life stages. One of those stages is a caterpillar. Caterpillars eat leaves of very specific plants. There can be overlap, but each species of butterfly has a specific plant or group of plants that their caterpillars can eat. They can't eat any leaves that don't belong to those plants or plant groups. Passiflora incarnata is a host plant for the gulf fritillary butterfly here in east Tennessee, and I want to take you on a journey here with me and show you why this plant is so wonderful, and why I love it regardless of it's very WILD nature.

Thanks for watching!
