GenOPT is a novel computer-based tool designed to simulate and execute parallel optimizations of multiple interconnected microgrids which combine heating and electrical distributed energy resources displaced in different localizations.
GenOPT embeds an innovative Self-Adaptive Evolutionary Algorithm (ADE), searching the best-fit design, optimal operation, geographical position to cost of energy (L-COE), financial performances (IRR, NPV), price policies, demand services, lifetime. The cost function is based on stochastic analytical and machine learning techno-economic models.
GenOPT aims to support policy maker, engineers, during the feasibility design phase by providing a quick and robust answer how local climate resources, type and size and operational strategies of DERs impact each hour the costs, state of health, energy flows among generators, energy storage, loads, loads, outer micro and macro-grids. Thus, it is a powerful engineering, financial tool to investigate the best approaches for an effective and wide diffusion of renewable energy sources at the most convenient economic terms.
