The purpose of working on framing plans is to help practice thinking about working on your objective in the context of guided engagements. The framing plan helps the guide to be organized before entering into a structured guided engagement with the student.



(1) What is my objective?

Samara will use emotional information gained from observing Guide’s facial expression to regulate her actions in a manner consistent with the referenced information in situations of uncertainty

(2) Select an activity (or piece of an activity)

Making monkey bread: Pattern = scoop, dip, sugar, drop

(3) Designate competent roles and role actions.

She was the “dipper” for the butter


(5) Eliminate unnecessary competing elements. Determine necessary structural modifications.

The ipad was dead and she was playing xbox. I had been telling her we were going to be making monkey bread all day and when it finally came time she dropped the xbox controller and came over to “baker” “time to bake!”

(6) At what point/s, can you spotlight your objective? (To create opportunities for visual referencing keep in mind that there needs to be a moment of productive UNCERTAINTY / a REASON to reference the guide.)
I tried changing things up during the pattern of scoop dip sugar and drop. Not doing the pattern in the right order, sugaring twice when we said drop, threw a couple toys in for the “dip” etc. I think this was the most engaged activity we have had thus far. Even after she prepared the dough and we had to wait for the rise she kept coming back saying “times up” “time to bake” and checking to see if it was bigger. I never had to compete with the xbox and keep reminding her to come back.
