My 1999 Porsche 911 (996.1) is getting a much-needed technology upgrade! The old head unit was a low-budget catastrophe, the radio didn't work, and my phone was glued to the windscreen. It was time for a change.

In this video, I explore the pros and cons of the super-expensive Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM+) system and explain why I chose a more sensible and practical solution from Alpine.

Watch as I get a new Alpine ILX-W770A head unit installed with wireless Apple CarPlay, a much-needed reversing camera, and more. The result is a more usable daily driver that's been dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century.

Is it a perfect solution? Not quite, but it’s a massive improvement for a daily driver in Melbourne city traffic - and it costs half the price!
