Marpole Dance Festival 2014
Abundance ~ A Magical Tapestry of Movement

On June 28th, Marpole celebrates its biennial cornucopia of dance art, the Marpole Dance Festival, which this year is titled Abundance. Come share the rich variety of Vancouver's dance talent in an afternoon of free, fun audience-participation public workshops, showcase performances, and a multi-cultural Food Fair. Then stay for the lavishly diverse Gala Evening of professional dance performances, including Urban Hip Hop, Russian Ballet, West African dance fused with Samba, Scottish Country dance, Okinawan Taiko Drum-dance, Tap dance, Chinese Traditional dance, Performance Art, Taiwanese folk dance, Bellydance, Contemporary Modern dance, Poetry dance (a new form), and Dance Film! The Festival will take place at the Scottish Cultural Centre in South Marpole and at the Centre's neighbour, the Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Centre.

Special Feature ­~ Performance Gala @ 7:30pm

Blending dances, theatre and humour, we weave all our featured dances into a cohesive story, taking the audience through a special presentation. A central character, the Traveler & Magician, takes the audience with her in her journey through the Land of Abundance. While she magically manifests her dreams into reality, we find our stage transformed into a living dream with the magical Chimeras, the Taiwanese Tea Harvest villagers, the Umbrella Fairies and the Bellydance Goddesses. And while the Hip Hop tribe unflinchingly challenges the peaceful Okinawa Taiko tribe in a dance competition, our dream is shattered by a recklessly bold Tap intruder.
