At around 3am on July 18th, 2021, 35 year old Elijah Snow and his wife Jamie rolled out of bed in their home in Arlington, Texas. Despite the early hour, their tiredness barely registered — instead, both of them were overcome with excitement. Today was the start of their dream vacation to the Mexican city of Cancun, and in just a few short hours they would be relaxing in paradise.

Elijah and Jamie had planned the trip in celebration of their 10th wedding anniversary, and had booked a hotel to match the significance of the occasion. For the next week they would be staying at the 5-star Royalton Chic Suites Cancun, a luxury $400 a night all-inclusive resort located in the heart of Cancun’s famous Hotel Zone. Not only was the hotel right on the beach, it offered a number of amazing amenities and packages including unlimited dining, drinks, and room service. The 35 year old couple had looked forward to the trip for months. In the weeks leading up to it, Jamie had even joined a private Facebook group for the Royalton’s hotel guests, chatting with other members who would be travelling at the same time as her and Elijah. It was going to be an anniversary to remember for the rest of their lives.

Though this would turn out to be true, it was not in the way that the couple ever could have imagined — as less than 24 hours after arriving in Mexico, Elijah would be dead.
