Your High Pressure Moment: Don't Let Results Define Your Self-Worth

“Don’t let outcomes or results define your self-worth.”
Think about the last time you felt pressure, fear, lack of self-worth, stress and anxiety. Now ask yourself these questions.
Was the outcome important to you?
Was the outcome uncertain?
Did you feel you were responsible for, and were being judged on, the outcome?
"The more important the outcome is to you, the more uncertain the outcome, and the more responsible you feel for the results (and more judged you feel) the more intense the pressure situation and the more likely you are to underperform.”

How to NOT Focus on the outcome and play in the present moment.

1) Focus on the next play, not the play that just happened ( it’s so easy to get distracted from the past or anxious about the future, so being where your feet are, shrinking your focus

2) Focus on what you can control: It’s a waste of time focusing your energy on what you can’t and it increases stress and anxiety.

3) Focus on the process/ Don’t worry about the outcome
If you do that consistently enough you will win, , your batting average, your ERA, stats, the scoreboard takes care of itself

“Don’t let outcomes or results define your self-worth.”

I highly recommend reading Hendrie Weisinger's book How to Perform Under Pressure: The Science of Doing Your Best When it Matters Most.
