The Department of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) initiated raids on former AIADMK minister SP Velumani's residence at Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore and later filed an FIR over manipulating tenders to favour his associates.
Sources said that the raid was based on complaints that Velumani was partial in issuing tenders during his tenure as the minister of municipalities and corporations.
DVAC has now filed an FIR against SP Velumani and 16 others based on a complaint of him misusing his powers.
SP Velumani and his brother Anbarasan have been mentioned as A1 and A2 in the FIR that was filed after further inquiry into a petition filed by DMK MP and party organizational secretary RS Bharathi and Jayram of Arappor Iyakkam in Madras High Court.
The FIR has stated that SP Velumani, during the period between 2014 and 2018, had extended large scale favouritism by using his official position as the Minister for Municipal Administration.
The AIADMK leader has been accused of awarding construction and supply tenders for the Greater Chennai and Coimbatore Municipality Corporations to his associates, including his brother.

The DVAC FIR also states that between 2014 and 2018, SP Velumani had allotted tenders worth Rs 474.02 crore for Greater Chennai Corporation and Rs 346.81 crore worth of tenders for Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, approximately.

In July, DVAC had conducted raids on former AIADMK minister MR Vijayabhaskar's residence as well.
