Here’s the TRUTH about how I taught myself to code in 4 months and got a job as a software engineer.

By far the most popular video on this channel is my ‘How I learned to code in 4 months and got a job offer as a software engineer video’, now at almost 1 million views which is just absolutely insane to me.

And I realise that that video was just a very broad overview of WHAT I did, which courses I took etc, but I didn’t go very deep into the HOW of how I learned to code, so in this video I want to do just that.

I’ve identified 3 factors that contributed to me being able to learn so fast

1. First, I worked really hard. There's no shortcut to this. If you want to get good at coding, you need to put in a lot of hours. I was in a position where I was taking a gap year, so with no other responsibilities, I was able to put in those hours in a relatively small amount of actual months, so that's really why I was able to do it in 4 rather than say 12 months like most people do. But we'll talk about exactly how many hours I put in per day etc.

2. Second is luck. I openly admit on my video that especially how I actually got my Software Engineer job offer was pretty lucky. Any success in life requires some luck. But the key is to not focus on that. As I do also believe I made my own luck, so we'll talk about that too.

3. And thirdly, I think I focused on the right things. And this is absolutely key, and a lot what I share on this channel is about focusing on the right things, working smart etc. While I did work hard I put in less hours than I could have had I not spent the time upfront figuring out what is most important and organising my studies intelligently, so we'll talk about that as well.
