Mono Blue Lantern Control | Do We Need Counterspells? | MODERN | MTG

This league I wanted to try something different in the Lantern universe by playing all islands! Typically playing counterspells in Lantern Control is frowned upon because they can get stuck in your hand when hiding behind Ensnaring Bridge, but today we're ignoring logic. We are running 8 counterspells in our mono blue deck, hoping to get the lock while also countering opponent's spells in the process. Our main deck is set up to utilize utility lands and Crucible of Worlds as additional win cons which pairs well with Urza's Saga. By running blue, we also get access to the newly unbanned cantrip, Preordain, which helps us filter our draws either looking for lock pieces or bottoming unnecessary lands. Finally one of the biggest benefits to being mono blue is access to Whir of Invention. This card is notoriously difficult to cast if you're not primarily blue and we get access to instant speed artifact retrieval! So is it worth it to go full blue in order to play counters in a prison deck?
